What is a French Manicure?
A French manicure is created by painting a white polish on the nail tips (free edge) and then applying a pale pink or pearl beige to the entire nail. The look is natural, feminine and sophisticated; and perfect for brides.
What is a pedicure?
A pedicure is not simply a cosmetic service for your toenails, it is total foot care to ensure healthy and hygienic feet. Nails are trimmed and filed to prevent cracks, peeling and ingrown toenails. The cuticles, which protect you from bacteria, are pushed back, trimmed and moisturized. Dry skin and excess callus on your feet builds up over time and can lead to cracked skin and uncomfortable walking. We remove this buildup during your pedicure by exfoliating the sole of the foot with a foot paddle. Finally, the foot is massaged with a moisturizing lotion, which helps to hydrate the skin, release tension, promote healthy blood circulation, and help you relax. Your feet will never feel better.
What is Reflexology?
It is important to make clear that Reflexology is not in any way a medical practice and is not intended to replace conventional medical treatment. What reflexology does is deeply relax the body. Since doctors agree that over 75% of health problems are stress-related in origin, reflexology can be of enormous benefit for a range of conditions and diseases. When relaxation is induced, blood supply to every part of the body is improved, nerve functioning is thus enhanced and equilibrium among the body’s various systems is re-established. In this way reflexology helps each part of the body to perform more effectively and when that happens, the body’s ability to start healing itself is enhanced.
Adherents of reflexology claim that regular reflexology sessions improve or eliminate various health problems: allergies, swollen ankles, bladder problems, gall stones, menstrual cramps, headaches and back pain to name just a few. Some clients, often those who are in pain, have reflexology on a regular weekly basis until they feel improvement. The number of sessions is gradually reduced as the symptoms are relieved. Others have weekly sessions to help them get through a particularly stressful period in their lives. Others have sessions periodically as a kind of health tune-up and preventative maintenance for their bodies.
In a typical reflexology session, the client lays in a recliner chair with his feet raised while first one foot and then the other foot is manipulated. The session lasts about 45 minutes. Systematically, the reflexologist manipulates every centimetre of each foot with the proper thumb and finger techniques. Some areas of the feet will be particularly sensitive. That tenderness indicates tension or congestion in the associated part of the body. By going over these areas several times the reflexologist can reduce that initial tenderness. It may take a series of regular weekly sessions before that pain is eliminated. The client leaves feeling deeply relaxed.

How to maintain your nails between manicures
Nothing feels and looks better than a professional manicure but there are many things you can do at home to keep your nails looking their best right up to your next spa visit. Here are some helpful tips:
- If you need to file your own nails before your next visit, hold your nail file at a 45 degree angle so the underside of your nail is filed first. Since nail protein grows in layers, filing the underside of the nail prevents layers of nail from peeling off the top.
- Always use a base coat when you apply nail polish. If nail polish is applied alone, it can stain your nail plate. Using a top coat will lock in your color and give your nails extra shine.
- Apply cuticle oil daily to prevent hangnails and dry skin.
Make sure to have a professional manicure once a month to keep your cuticles and nails looking their best.
How to combat aging naturally
Serenity Spa, Hair and Café has numerous procedures (botox, lumilift, restylane and facials to mention a few) and products that can help you combat aging. However there are some natural steps you can take to enhance and preserve the effects of these procedures and products. Here are a few natural age fighting techniques you can do at home:
- Keep yourself hydrated - Proper hydration is an important factor for maintaining good health and makes your skin appear brighter and smoother. Make sure you drink lots of water whenever possible.
- Use Sun block - UVA and UVB sun rays dehydrate the skin and break down the collagen and elastin. These elements make up the skin's fibrous support system and without them skin starts to sag and wrinkle.
- Don't Smoke - Smoking restricts the blood capillaries that feed your skin and destroys Vitamin C which is essential in maintaining skin's elasticity and firmness.
- Exercise - Cardiovascular exercise stimulates blood circulation, which pumps oxygen through the body and gives your skin a healthy glow. Physical activity also helps you maintain good health and prevents many diseases.
How to make your fragrance last all day
You can make your fragrance last longer by using a technique called layering that French women have used for years. Using various forms of a fragrance in layers creates a foundation of scent that will last from morning to evening, requiring fewer touch-ups. As the day goes on and one layer of fragrance fades, it is replaced by the next layer. The result is a continuous aura of fragrance that needs perhaps only one touch-up for a more dramatic effect. Just follow these steps to achieve a beautiful scent that is neither too strong nor too light, but remains constant all day:
- Use richly concentrated bath oil or moisturizing bath oil when you bathe. Bath oil not only smoothes and softens, but forms another fragrance layer that holds the scent on the skin. If you prefer to shower, use a perfumed shower gel. You can also apply moisturizing bath oil before showering.
- In the bath/shower use a perfumed soap that matches your fragrance. Do not use deodorant soap, as it will inhibit the absorption of a scent.
- After bathing, while the skin is still damp, massage with a body lotion that matches the fragrance. The lotion will hold moisture against the skin, making it softer and reinforcing the scent.
- Follow with a dusting powder to help set the fragrance, while keeping the skin cool and comfortable.
- Apply Eau de Toilette. Light and gentle, it is perfect for creating an all day fragrance.
- Finally, apply your perfume, the richest concentration and the most luxurious fragrance form. Use a small amount on the key pulse points: behind the ears, on the throat, inside the elbows, and behind the knees. Sine this layer is the most potent, you only need to use a small amount to highlight the bases of the fragrance already established.
